How this calculator works
Sidewall = width × aspect ratio ÷ 100. The comparison describes sidewall height, not a measured comfort score. Under 2% is similar; 2–10% is slightly higher/lower; above 10% is higher/lower. These are editorial display bands.

Worked example
225/45 R17 has a 101.25 mm sidewall. 205/55 R16 has a 112.75 mm sidewall. The extra 11.5 mm may help impact absorption with other factors held equal.

Is a higher sidewall always more comfortable?
No. Construction, pressure, compound, suspension, vehicle and wheel weight, and road surface can outweigh a size difference.
Does wider mean more grip?
Not automatically. Contact patch area is influenced by load and inflation pressure; width affects its shape. Compound, tread, conditions and construction are critical.
