How this calculator works
L/100km = 100 ÷ km/L. US MPG = km/L × 3.785411784 ÷ 1.609344. UK MPG = km/L × 4.54609 ÷ 1.609344.

Worked example
15 km/L is 6.67 L/100km, 35.28 US MPG or 42.37 UK MPG. A larger MPG number is better; a smaller L/100km number is better.

Frequently asked questions
Why is UK MPG higher than US MPG?
An imperial gallon contains 4.54609 litres, compared with 3.785411784 litres in a US gallon. The same car travels farther per larger gallon.
Can I compare different test cycles?
Converting units does not reconcile different laboratory test procedures. Compare like-for-like measurements or your own real-world consumption.
